Music: The Mountain Goats

Mountain Goats

I’m really enjoying this band, The Mountain Goats. A lofi American folk rock group who record mostly straight onto cassette!
Being a hifi man, it came as quite a surprise to me that I’d enjoy it so much.
I’m currently listening to their 2005 album, The Sunset Tree, an autobiographical account of the singer/songwriter’s rough teenage years, with its range of influences from Bob Dylan to REM.
I’m usually a mood and music man rather than a lyrics man, but this album focusses on storytelling and the songs on the album build up the story of a troubled youth battling with alcohol and an abusive father. Yet somehow there’s the feeling hope throughout the album, as if the boy knew that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, if he could only keep on walking.
